Sassnitz – Day 1
Finally the time has come! In the end, it became a little hectic, because we start two days earlier than planned – and already at 3 pm. The car is fully packed – the cable tangle around the electrical devices such as cell phones, chargers, tablets and laptops for four people, resolved. Everyone is in high spirits and happy to finally escape the heat of Brandenburg with 37 degrees Celcius. The car is big enough for the four of us and has air conditioning that works very well.
The drive to Sassnitz went smoothly – no traffic jams or accidents on the way. But of course – shortly before the destination a mega traffic jam due to full closure because of a burning truck. Nothing worked for an hour.
Finally arrived in Sassnitz we went after the check-in in the hotel immediately to the famous chalk cliffs. These chalk cliffs are embedded in a nature reserve. Beautiful to look at and marvel at. In addition, the temperature dropped to a pleasant 25 degrees Celsius. An ideal condition for a 12 km walk through nature. It was a lot of fun for us as a family – and above all, the kids were great – no grumbling, no bickering and no uncontrolled outbursts of a pubescent.
It was pleasantly cool in the forest and the air was wonderfully fresh. Pia, my better half, was busy painting berkel stones with the kids. She is in a FB group that does this hobby. If you find a berkel stone (here are a few examples of them), you are welcome to keep it and take it with you or just post a photo with the coordinates in the FB group. We then “released” our first XJOUR berkel stone in the Sassnitz forest. If you find it, send us a message with a picture to hello@xjour.com. We would be very happy about it.
After so much nature we were of course very hungry and in the end we had our fill at the Dönermann in town. Important especially for our junior Theo, who was very impressed by our accommodation, a former prison converted into a hotel. We threatened him with a laugh to just leave him in the cell if he wasn’t good. We have rarely seen him so well-behaved – both at home and while traveling.
Tired, we fell into our narrow beds. For the next day we have to get up early (around the time of the first or second cockcrow). Then it goes with the car ferry over to Sweden. But more about that tomorrow.
